Acknowledging Support

NSF EPSCoR Awards

All products (including promotional and recruiting materials) resulting from an NSF Track-1 project must acknowledge NSF support (ex: publications, poster presentations, oral presentations, etc.). For NSF acknowledgements, except for articles or papers published in scientific, technical or professional journals, the following disclaimer must also be included in your acknowledgement: "Any opinions, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this material are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the National Science Foundation." NSF's logo can be used by recipients of NSF support for the sole purpose of acknowledging that support.

EXAMPLE #1 Poster: NSF Acknowledgement for the ND-ACES EPSCoR Track-1 Cooperative Agreement:

"Research presented in this presentation was supported by the National Science Foundation under NSF EPSCoR Track-1 Cooperative Agreement OIA #1946202.
Any opinions, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this material are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the National Science Foundation."

EXAMPLE #2 Paper: NSF Acknowledgement for the ND-ACES EPSCoR Track-1 Cooperative Agreement:

"Research presented in this paper was supported by the National Science Foundation under NSF EPSCoR Track-1 Cooperative Agreement OIA #1946202.
Any opinions, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this material are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the National Science Foundation."

EXAMPLE #3 Poster: Acknowledgement for ND EPSCoR seed funding (not Track-1; ex: Research, Education, or Outreach seed award like that shown inthis RFP):

"Research presented in this presentation was supported by ND EPSCoR seed funding.
Any opinions, findings, and conclusions or recommendations expressed in this material are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of ND EPSCoR."

Other EPSCoR-like Funding Sources

Your funding source may have unique requirements on acknowledging support. Below are agencies that provide EPSCoR funding with links to their acknowledgement guidelines.

ND EPSCoR Internal Funding Sources

Funding provided by ND EPSCoR must be acknowledged in any promotional/recruiting material and products that results from the activity and/or research. Acknowledgement includes the use of the ND EPSCoR logo and an acknowledgement statement. Examples include:

"Research presented in this poster/conference was supported by ND EPSCoR."

"The authors would like to acknowledge financial support from the ND EPSCoR STEM grants program  for this research."

Powerpoint and Poster Templates

The PowerPoint and Poster Templates below should be used by all NSF EPSCoR RII Track-1 (ND-ACES) participants for their ND-ACES related presentations so as to have a consistent look and allow for consistent recognition of activity funded by the RII Track-1 project.

RCR Training for Participating Campuses

Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR) is the practice of scientific investigation with integrity. NSF requires that every student doing RII Track-1 research must take RCR training prior to working on the project. The PI also requires that every faculty member doing RII Track-1 research must also take RCR training to gain firsthand knowledge of what is required of their students. (NSF also requires this training for postdocs; however, there are not postdocs on ND EPSCoR’s NSF RII Track-1 ND-ACES award.) RCR Training is valid for the duration of the award. Required by NSF since 2010 and by the ND University system since 2017, RCR involves the awareness and application of established professional norms and ethical principles in the performance of all activities related to scientific research. RCR is simply good citizenship applied to professional life. According to the ND State Board of Higher Education Policy Manual, Section 410.0, the RCR policy applies to institutions that receive external funding or support for research, with “support” defined to include “nonmonetary provision or access to equipment, supplies, or lab space by paid or unpaid research participants.” RCR encompasses nine areas: 1) research misconduct; 2) human participants; 3) research involving animals; 4) data acquisition, management, sharing, and ownership; 5) mentor/trainee responsibilities; 6) publication practices and responsible authorship; 7) peer review; 8) collaborative science; and 9) conflicts of interest.

Training and Management
All participants will need to load their RCR training certificate of completion to ERcore.

  • MCU/PUI/TCU participants
    • Follow the RCR protocols of your campus. If no RCR training protocols currently exist at your institution, you may contact the ND EPSCoR State Office with questions: Kathy Wahlberg at kathleen.wahlberg@ndus.edu or 701-231-8618.
